Standard Portfolio: Professional Dispositions

PROFESSIONAL DISPOSITIONS REFLECTION: I feel most comfortable in the disposition area of Desire to Improve My Own Performace because I feel like I am consistently seeking research, opportunities, and strategies to improve my student's studio experiences. My biggest wish for my students is that they see the arts as an opportunity to communicate, tell stories, and disrupt norms in a meaningful way. I am willing to put time and energy into this as I have witnessed how artistic experiences can positively impact people's mental health as well as their perspective of themselves in connection to the world around them. I also feel comfortable in the disposition area of Cultural Responsiveness as I always consider the intent and impact of how my pedagogical strategies and curricular content could influence and even have the potential to harm students who hold marginalized identities. I recognize that teachers hold a lot of power and influence over students and I want to be certain that all of my students feel uplifted, heard, and recognized for their unique abilities in my classroom. In the future, I want to focus on Tact and Judgement as I have often found myself in situations where I find it difficult to discern the best teaching/behavior management strategies, often because of my lack of experience. These dispositions will support my professional goals in the fact that they have grounded all of my teaching experiences thus far in my teaching career. Because I have engaged with and received feedback in accordance with these dispositions, I feel as though it will be natural for me to continue with this routine practice until new values and areas for growth are revealed. I have noticed that reflective moments and feedback in accordance with the values of the dispositions almost happen subconsciously. So, I anticipate that this will continue to be the case.
